Greenmantle Ale abv 3.9%

Greenmantle is the ale with which Broughton Brewery was founded in 1980, taking it’s name from the eponymous John Buchan novel. John Buchan spent a great deal of his childhood in the village of Broughton.

Greenmantle is a dark, bitter/sweet ale with a pleasant hop aftertaste. 

     
Scottish Oatmeal Stout Font Clip   

Scottish Oatmeal Stout abv 4.2%

Oats are used in the brewing of Scottish Oatmeal Stout to enhance the flavour of the black malt and roasted barley which give this traditional beer its rich dark colour and strong, complex roasted malt aroma and flavour, reminicient of coffee and chocolate.

These flavours are offset by a good hop bitterness and silky aftertaste.

Robert Younger, great grandfather of the founder of Broughton Brewery would be proud of this fine stout.

The Ghillie, guides sportsmen in the art of fishing for salmon on the likes of the river Tweed which flows close by Broughton Ales in the Scottish Borders.

The Ghillie ale is a copper coloured ale bursting with hop flavours and aromas from the specially selected English and  German hops used in the brewing process.

Black Douglas was a famous Scottish Knight and trusted friend of Robert the Bruce. The Bruce and Black Douglas first met only a few miles from the site of Broughton Ales in the Scottish Borders.

We like to think that the dark  ruby colour and rich malty flavour of this ale reflectthe power and strength of this great Knight.

A dark traditional ale such as enjoyed by Dr Samuel Johnson Esq. on his legendary literary travels with the good Mr. James Boswell in many fine inns and taverns of Scotland and England.

A ‘quality dark ale’ with rich roast malt flavours and an exciting Northdown hop aroma and taste.

Reeket Yill, lowland Scots for Smoked Ale is a rarely brewed ale with an amazing smoked flavour.

Brewed with the same peated malts used in the Islay and Jura malt whiskies, this unique ale has an interesting flavour balance between the smoked malt and the excellent hop bitterness.
