Tibbie Shiels Ale Product Information

Tibbie Shiels Inn on the shores of St Mary's Loch in the Scottish Borders was founded by Tibbie Shiels in 1824 and her hospitality was ledgend among the literati of the time such as Sir Walter Scott, James Hogg and Robert Lewis Stevenson.

Such was her fame that when she died an obituary to her appeared in the New York Times.

She was quoted by one of her contemporaries as saying that " no doubt when she was long gone people would still refer to the inn as Tibbie Shiels Inn." And so it is still called to this day. Great beers, good food and magnificent views are enjoyed by the many visitors to St Mary's Loch.

This ale was created as a tribute to Tibbie Shiels and we like to think that she would have been quietly pleased with the resulting dark, full bodied beer with its fine malt flavours and clean fresh hop aftertaste.

Tibbie Shiels Ale won the Tesco Beer Challenge in 2009 and won a silver medal at the International beer competition in the same year.

Major ingredients are:

Pale ale malt, crystal malt and black malt.

Hops are fuggles, 1st gold, perle and bramling cross for aroma.
